Watain - Lawless Darkness (2010)

Sweden' s own Watain once again reach out of the darkness and wrap their gnarled fist around your Jatz Crackers.

It's black metal at it best.
It's black metal with that old school thrash feel.
It's a combination of vocals, guitars, drums and the strength of that composition.

In the end its fucking Watain.

Burial & Four Tet & Thom Yorke - Ego/Mirror (2011)

Fresh from Radiohead's new album "The King Of Limbs", Thom Yorke has involved himself in a new two track  collaborative with Dupstep's Burial and Folktronica's Four Tet.

Both Burial and Four Tet have worked together in the past and both producers have remixed tracks from Thom, but never working directly with either of them.

The album continues the journey into the realms of dense, glitchy electronica.

Tracklisting:

1. Ego
2. Mirror

The mongrels want to impose a carbon tax on us. Does that mean they are gonna tax the bubbles in my beer???

Atheist - Jupiter (2010)

Another nightshift being whipped by the unrelenting machine, pushing cups of coffee down my engorged gullet and throwing some grooves into the blackness.

Whilst never having heard Atheist before I didn't have any expectations. If anything I had my doubts seeing the band has been peddling its wares since the mid 80's and this is their first album in 17 years. I reached out, turned my metal horns to the sky and prayed it wasn't some geriatric power metalers hiding behind a very cool album cover.

Not to be. The album starts off with a blistering pace and with a bucket of shit in hand, the band throws everything at you. Spiraling riffs and tempo changes. Countless solos and sick twists.  I expect in comparison to their previous efforts the production its a very polished sound and to some this may be a downfall that the band has climbed out of the dungeon. Overall a great album.

Tracklisting:

01. Second To Sun
02. Fictitious Glide
03. Fraudulent Cloth
04. Live And Live Again
05. Faux King Christ
06. Tortoise The Titan
07. When The Beast
08. Third Person

The Abominable Iron Sloth - S/T (2005)

Sludgy, crusty hardcore goodness (Pretty much how my throat is feeling is feeling today).

Hailing from the US these lads meld hard-cores infectious groves with an downtrodden, agitated bluesy assault.

Riffs as thick as popeye's forearm and buckets of rhythm, its all about down tuned guitars and meaty distortions.

Tracklist:

1. Hats Made Of Veal And That New Car Scent
2. I'd Rather Die Than Fly
3. I Am The Carcass
4. A Hot Pink Shell Of My Former Self
5. Parasite Hilton And Other Flaws Inherent To Wealth
6. A Distant Pond From The Rivers Of Human Limelight
7. The Family That Slays Together Stays Together

Mastodon - Live At The Aragon (2011)

Recorded (and filmed) live on the 19th Rocktober, 2009 in the Aragon Ballroom (Chicago). The progressive metal frontiersmen capture in glorious hues of gold and silver the entire "Crack the Skye" album plus a few selected tracks from "Blood Mountain", "Leviathan" and a blistering cover of "The Bit" by "Melvins".

I'm absolutely loving this live album. While the vocals at times pale in comparison to their studio albums the boys are still a very polished outfit and I can't wait to get my grubby claws on the DVD.

Tracklisting:

01. Oblivion
02. Divinations
03. Quintessence
04. The Czar
05. Ghost of Karelia

07. The Last Baron
08. Circle of Cysquatch
09. Aqua Dementia
10. Where Strides The Behemoth
11. Mother Puncher
12. The Bit (MELVINS cover)
